What is collagen?

Collagen is a hard, insoluble and fibrous protein substance which makes up one third of the protein found in the human body. Molecules are packed together in order to form long thin fibrils. This substance helps hold the body together and it is the most abundant protein in the body. It’s found in bones, muscles, tendons and the skin where it forms a scaffold in order to provide strength and structure.

Collagen is composed of a molecular structure of three polypeptide sub-units known as alpha chains containing 1000 amino-acids.

It has many purposes in the body. These include providing structural support, elasticity, helping with new cellular growth, replacement and restoration of dead skin cells.

Below are some ideas to keep your collagen and skin healthy and young:

Consume Vitamin C

According to research, women who are 40 and older and who consume high quantities of Vitamin C are less likely to develop wrinkles than those consuming lower levels. Many people aren’t aware that Vitamin C is crucial in the formation of skin cells. Without it, lipids cannot be linked to form protein. Several sources of Vitamin C are readily available and include red pepper, dark green leafy vegetables, tomatoes, oranges, and kiwi. You can also purchase collagen supplements and collagen cream.

Use Sunscreen

When the sun comes out, everyone wants to head to the beach or sunbathe by the pool. While this is beneficial by allowing the skin to soak up the rays of the sun including Vitamin D, it can also be harmful especially if you don’t protect your skin. Medical experts recommend religiously applying an SPF 30 sunscreen daily (rain or shine). Another excellent topical serum that contains collagen is our top seller, Skin Uplift Serum (formerly known as Uplift Serum). Skin Uplift Serum offers face and neck-firming properties such as collagen, DMAE, sea kelp, two peptides and hyaluronic acid and it’s free of any parabens, phthalates, fragrances, color or petrochemicals. Find it at my store for a great discount price of just $32.95.

Cut back on sweet stuff

Candy is one of the most alluring snacks that everybody loves to enjoy from time to time. While it is great to savor the sweetness and the flavors of the candy, eating too much sugar can be a beauty disaster. What you need to know is that it leads to premature aging of the skin through a process known as glycation. In this process, the sugar attaches itself to lipids, nucleic acids and protein forming advanced glycation end products. This results in wrinkly skin.

Final Thoughts

Collagen is important in the body as it helps in providing structural support, restoration of dead skin cells and renewal of cells. It is important to ensure that you have optimum levels of colagen for skin in the body to ensure your skin looks young always.
