Louisa’s Anti Aging and Skin Care Tip #3: Exfoliate Skin Twice a Week
As children, our skin cells naturally regenerate very quickly (about every 28 days) and as we age, skin cell regeneration slows down (about every 48 days).
Exfoliate skin twice a week and you will see and feel an amazing transformation.
Exfoliating smooths and loosens dull, rough, dry skin cells, bringing fresh, new cells to the surface. Regular twice weekly exfoliation can help fade age spots, acne and blemish and acne scars, unclog and refine pores, and refine and smooth lines and wrinkles. Exfoliating stimulates collagen and elastin production and can help prevent sagging skin.
For face and neck, many of my clients and I are addicted to our professional strength Exfoliating Enzyme Powder. For your face, just pour a dime or nickel-sized amount of powder into the palm of your hand and add a few drops of water to make a paste consistency. Apply it as a mask on clean washed skin. Leave the mask on for 5-10 minutes for amazing results. It tightens your skin, helps to refine pores, fades age spots and gently resurfaces the skin. NOTE: You will need to pour more powder in the palm to exfoliate larger areas such as neck and chest.
When exfoliating your face, be sure to include temples, jaw line and neck. Women often avoid exfoliating these areas, giving away their age. After just a few months of exfoliating, you’ll begin to notice tighter and thicker skin. The veins at your temples will be less protruding, jowls will become less droopy, the skin on the neck becomes tighter, and age spots (liver spots) on hands and face will fade.
There are many different types of exfoliants including hydroxy acids such as glycolic acid, lactic, and alpha hydroxy acid(AHA) which naturally occur in fruit, milk, plants or sugar. Exfoliating with mild concentrations of alpha hydroxy acid (AHA), salicylic acid (BHA), and lactic acid (found in milk) are safe to use two times a week on all skin types from dry to oily. Our Exfoliating Enzyme Powder offers premium skin exfoliating ingredients that can be used by all skin types. including bromelain enzymes (proteases) derived from pineapple, bamboo crystals composed of silica powder, white willow bark (similar to but less irritating than salicylic acid) and kiwi extract, which is rich in proteases (enzymes), beta-carotene, lutein, and zeaxanthin.
If you like DIY facial masks, try the following three recipes below. They’re super easy to make!
The following yogurt and lemon facial mask helps brighten uneven skin tone, refines pores, and helps heal or prevent blemishes. It even provides a mini face-lift effect.
Yogurt & Lemon Mask
(For Normal, Dry, Oily or Blemish-Prone Skin)
Combine 2 tbsp. plain yogurt with 1 tsp. fresh lemon juice and apply mixture to clean face. Leave on for 20 minutes (until the mask dries), then wash it off with tepid water. Some women leave the mask on overnight for an even brighter and tighter complexion in the morning.
2 Enzyme Peels For All Skin Types, Including Rosacea and Sensitive Skin
Enzyme peels and masks like pumpkin or papaya are very popular and can be used on ALL skin types. Enzymes gently dissolve dead surface layers, improve skin texture, firm the skin, remove impurities, help heal blemishes, brighten and even skin tone, and are rich in vitamins and minerals. Spas charge about $65 to $85 for an enzyme peel. Did you know you can give yourself an enzyme peel with a pumpkin or papaya for under $5?
See 2 easy enzyme recipes below:
Combine a heaping tbsp. of canned organic pumkin with a tbsp. of plain yogurt and apply onto clean skin. Leave on until it dries (about 10 minutes). then, rinse it off with tepid water.
If you have papaya handy, cut it in half, scoop out the pulp. Eat the pulp later. It’s great for digestion and tastes delicious. Rub the inside of the peel of the papaya on your face, including under eyes, on lips and neck. Wait about 20 minutes or until the mask dries, then rinse with tepid water.
Exfoliating Liquids & Scrubs
For sun-damaged, sensitive, acne-prone skin or those with rosacea, consider using a cream or liquid cleansing exfoliant such as Beyond Clean Cleanser to gently exfoliate without irritating the skin.
An excellent spray body exfoliator and hydrator I’ve recommended to thousands of individuals is called Skinlating Hydrating Moisturizer. This all-natural, paraben-free, fragrance-free spray/mist contains Vitamin C, lactic acid, hyaluronic acid and non-pore clogging vegetable glycerin. It comes in a large 6 oz. spray bottle – perfect for the entire body and it’s just $31.00 HERE. Some dermatologists charge $49.00 for Skinlasting! Simply spray it on your neck, chest, arms, legs, hands and feet after showering. This is also beneficial for those with extremely dry or diabetic skin.
NOTE: Scrub exfoliants are NOT recommended for those with rosacea or sensitive skin.
For individuals with normal, dry, mature or oily skin, exfoliating scrubs can help smooth and fade fine lines, pigmentation spots, brighten complexion and help stimulate collagen production. Scrub Exfoliants can also result in more youthful-looking skin. However, they are not recommended to those with rosacea or sensitive skin.

After cleansing, while your face is still wet, grab a handful of baking soda and gently scrub face in a circular motion. Then rinse. Follow with Soothing Toner to help balance the pH of all skin types. Next, apply a peptide-rich moisturizer or serum. Two popular moisturizer choices are Ultimate Age-Proofing Complex with peptides, EGF and antioxdiants (for all mature skin types)or De-Aging Solution with extra hydrators, EGF and antioxidants (for mature dry and dehydrated skin. De-Aging Solution is also great for winter climates and those living in dry or high altitudes. Popular serums choices are Night Perfect, Skin Uplift Serum or Stem Cell Serum. Serums help smooth lines a wrinkles and help to lighten and brighten the complexion.
For body exfoliation, apply baking soda on a face cloth or use a loofa to exfoliate from neck down to feet while in the shower.
Natural Skin Lighteners
For those with age-spots, natural ingredients can help inhibit melanin production (also known as age spots). One such healthy, powerful skin fading cream is our new Night Nutrient Cream.
This moisturizer hydrates and brightens the complexion as well as repairs and prevents wrinkles and age spots. It gently resurfaces the skin on the face, neck and chest while it also heals and protects the skin’s stem cells with professional strength ingredients known to help repair DNA mutations. This powerful concentration can help to effectively fade the appearance of spots and hyper pigmentation with nightly use. Because Night Nutrient Cream comes in a generous 2 oz. jar, it can be applied on face, neck, chest and hands at bedtime. Rejuvenate, smooth, hydrate, repair, brighten and protect your skin with our new Night Nutrient Cream.
Hydroquinone is another skin bleaching choice often recommended by dermatologists. However, it is not good for long term use or those with sensitive skin, or who can’t tolerate hydroquinone skin lightener. It must be kept in the fridge to ensure efficacy. The natural skin lighteners listed above may be more suitable. Or you can do the Yogurt & Lemon Mask or Enzyme Masks noted above.
