Are you part of the groups of people that realizes minerals are important to your health, but you really don’t know what role they play? Most of us don’t have a full grasp of the importance they play in our everyday lives.

Minerals are actually inorganic chemical elements that are not attached to a carbon atom. That being said there are actually two types of minerals our bodies require: bulk minerals and trace minerals.

Two examples of minerals:

Trace minerals are required by the human body but only in small amount to maintain a balanced diet. Examples of trace minerals would include the following: Chromium,  Cobalt, Copper, Fluorine, Iodine, Iron, Manganese, Molybdenum, Selenium, and Zinc.

Bulk minerals on the other hand, we need in larger amounts and on a larger basis. These minerals include the following: Calcium, Chlorine, Magnesium, Phosphorus, Potassium,   Sodium, and Sulfur.

We have all been schooled about the importance of vitamins and minerals in our everyday life, but do we have an understanding of the distinction between bulk minerals and trace minerals. As we’ve said there are trace minerals benefits our body requires. But what constitutes trace minerals?

The human body or cellular body needs more than 100 milligrams of a mineral each and every day to maintain its health, its referred to as a bulk mineral. If it requires less than this it’s called a trace mineral and they’re needed in quantities of only a few milligrams or micrograms a day.

Minerals and how they are taken in or absorbed by our bodies is dependent on many factors. As we age, it’s more important that the chemical balance of our bodies is kept in check to maintain its balance.
