How to Get Great Legs 1

I love wearing summer dresses, skirts, tops and shorts. But for some of us, showing our legs and arms can be stressful! Cellulite, varicose veins, and spider veins can make some of us feel as if we’d rather shave our heads than bare our legs!

Wearing shorts doesn’t have to be a traumatic experience. If you want to know how to look good in shorts, dresses and skirts this summer, enjoy the tips below that address both legs and arms.

But most importantly, no matter what you choose to wear, embrace your your look with confidence. There’s nothing more attractive than confidence, right?

Dry Brushing for Treating Cellulite on Legs & Arms

Want to try dry brushing for treating cellulite? Read more…Exfoliating the thighs and arms stimulates collagen production and regenerates new, fresh cells to the surface. This also triggers the production of elastin, making the skin firmer and thicker. In addition, exfoliating cellulite-prone areas releases toxins and fluids, ensuring smoother-looking thighs.

Dry brushing is a fast way to gently slough off surface layers of dead skin and increases the blood flow within the subcutaneous fat layer, detoxifying and smoothing the skin. The motion of dry brushing boosts circulation which helps drain the lymphatic system and releases the body of toxins and excess fluids. This promotes internal cleansing. NOTE: Avoid dry brushing tender skin or areas that have cuts or rashes. You can find dry brushes at your local health food or drug store.

Here’s what you do:
Dry brushing is best done a.m. and p.m. prior to showering.

Stand in front of a mirror and inspect the arms, thighs, buttocks and tummy for signs of cellulite. Dry brush each area for 30 seconds to 1 minute. If you have more time, take an extra few minutes to include an overall body brushing.

The best technique for dry brushing is brushing up toward the heart in a semi-circle motion. Start at the wrists and brush up to the shoulders. Next, start at the ankles and brush up to the top of the upper thighs. If you have time, dry brush the buttocks and stomach up toward the heart. Skin should be slightly pink – not red. Then shower. Dry brush your skin twice a week.

After showering, apply Cellulite Buster & Neck Firming Cream on thighs and arms to speed results. As noted in last week’s newsletter, you can get it a large 4 oz. jar at a great price at my website SHOP

If you’re challenged with dry or crepy looking skin on arms and legs, an excellent and quick option is our Skinlasting Hydrating Moisturizer with lactic acid, hyaluronic acid, vitamin C, green tea and no fragrance. It’s a spray mist that gently exfoliates and greatly hydrates body skin – all year round. I love Skinlasting as a quick fix before heading out the door. Wonderful for dry, aging, dehydrated skin. Apply it on decolletage, neck and feet too!

Treating Spider Veins

Reddish-blue spider veins usually become more visible on the legs during hormonal stages and pregnancy. Below are some effective and affordable suggestions that can help reduce the look of these small, yet noticeable veins.

Good circulation helps prevent spider veins. Uncross your legs when sitting and put feet up at the end of the day – especially if your job requires standing for long hours.

Clinical studies note that herbal horse-chestnut (tincture) improves leg circulation, decreases inflammation, and strengthens the capillaries and veins. Below is an effective DIY recipe.

Here’s what you do:
Combine 3 tbsp. witch hazel with 1 tsp. horse chestnut (homeopathic tincture) and apply on spider veins. Then apply 100% emu oil over top and massage into the affected areas.

A NOTE ABOUT EMU OIL: There are many emu oils on the market that have been cut with deer oil but they do not list this on the label!!  Be sure to invest in top quality100% pure emu oil which is the only type sold at HollywoodBeautySecrets.,com and it’s an affordadable price.

Alternate method:
Apply homeopathic arnica gel or cream and then massage 100% emu oil overtop. Arnica helps fade bruising as well as reddish-blue spider veins. Emu oil will speed your results. It even helps to thicken skin and calm scars. Read even more benefits of emu oil on my site.
Try this natural and safe combination for 90 days.

  1. Using Artificial Sweeteners – Surprisingly, “diet” foods are a huge contributor to weight gain. According to Dr. Alicia Stanton, author of “The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Weight Loss”, these sweeteners trick the brain into expecting MORE calories, leading to even MORE cravings! They also decrease your desire for food that is not intensely sweet, such as fruits and vegetables, making them seem unpalatable and unappealing. Doesn’t that defeat the whole purpose of avoiding sugar?

One sweetener, Aspartame, breaks down into methyl alcohol, a chemical associated with causing seizures, decreased vision, migraines, memory loss, irritability, and hyperactivity. Sucralose has been linked to migraines and low thyroid. In addition, artificial sweetners lodge into the organs or our bodies over time, which can cause health concerns. Shall I go on?

Instead of drinking diet drinks and coffee loaded with these horrible additives, try this alternative to lemon-lime soda:

  • 2 lemons
  • 2 limes
  • 1 gallon of Soda water
  • Xylitol or stevia (stevia works well with citrus)

Add the juice from the lemons and limes to the soda water and sweeten to taste. Get creative and use other fruits as well! Ginger, lemon, and pineapple also make a great combination!

Or a simpler drink is squeezing some fresh lemon juice into a cold glass of water. Add stevia to taste (optional)

  1. Overuse of Electronic Devices – Did you know that being connected 24/7 raises cortisol levels? Yes! Anticipating what is in an email, constantly receiving messages, and checking social media keeps your cortisol levels raised all day. Cortisol can cause anxiety, sleeplessness, overeating, and drain the adrenals, all of which can add inches to your waistline and affects our wellbeing.

A study from Berkeley University found that ALL participants taking a break from their devices found improvement in focus, concentration, relationships, sleep patterns, and overall productivity levels. Interestingly enough, the participants in this study were all young people who had grown up using devices. Unlike the rest of us, they don’t remember a time without them!

Unfortunately, all of us rely on our phones and being disconnected is becoming impossible. We do everything online now: find dates, buy clothes, and now we even buy groceries online! Taking a break from electronics for a few hours a day can help break the cycle of dependency we feel.

  • If possible, leave your phone as far away from you as you can at work.  Let your family know that you will be turning your phone off at certain times of the day, just to take a break.
  • Don’t bring your phone to the dinner table! Connecting with your family over dinner is the best way for you to keep track of what everyone is up to.
  • And most importantly, leave your phone outside of the bedroom or in a sidetable, so you can relax and get a proper night’s sleep. I guarantee this will eliminate a lot of the stress you may not know you have! Less stress means less cortisol production, thus faster weight loss or maintenance.
  1. Too Few Bowel Movements –  Did you know that not pooping enough can interfere with your weight loss goals? Having fecal matter trapped in your intestines is not fun for you or your gut! It causes gas, bloating, and keeps the pounds on. The sedentary lifestyle many of us have adopted since Covid-19 isn’t helping! How to get things moving again? Take a walk after dinner and up your fiber intake, of course! To make this easier for you and everyone around you (think bloating and gas!), begin with a small amount of fiber and work your way up. See the easy ways to add fiber to your day, below. suggestions below.

Here’s an easy way to add fiber to your day:

Breakfast: Combine plain Greek yogurt with 1 tsp. chopped nuts, 1 tsp. ground flax, berries, and a little Stevia or Xylitol as a sweetener (optional). This makes a super delicious and high fiber breakfast or dessert! In addition to the fiber, the probiotics in the yogurt help your digestion and boost your mood!

Lunch or Dinner: Start with a fresh green salad before either or both of these meals. Salads not only product fiber, they offer beneficial antioxidants that he3lp keep you and your skin feeling and looking more youthful.

Bedtime: Start with 1 tsp. at bedtime in a glass of water. Follow with another full plalin glass of water. Eventually add a bit more ground flax seeds to your evening regimen, until you achieve regular morning bowel movements. Another suggestion is taking your magnesium supplement at bed. this helps to relax muscles, calms bruxism (grinding your teeth) and can improve morning bowel elimination.

If you’re anything like me and love researching anti-aging ingredients you may have come across stem cells in your search. Stem cell serums are now found in anti-wrinkle creams and serums. Celebrities like Jennifer Lopez and Michelle Obama are huge fans of this potent anti-aging ingredient. All you need to do is take one look at those two to see how effective it really is! I mean, could you believe that J-Lo was 50 at her recent Superbowl performance?

Stem Cells: A Favorite Skin Preserver 2

The magic ingredient behind our popular anti-aging serum, Stem Cell Serum is Swiss apple Uttwiler Spatlaubestem (PhytoCellTech™ Malus Domestica). This rare apple remains unspoiled, unspotted, and flavorful long after other apples have rotted away (, 2020). Scientists have discovered how to use these plant stem cells to keep skin smooth and unspoiled, just like the apple they come from!

How Stem Cell Serum works

Our skin has millions of stem cells that rejuvenate, restore, and renew our skin. Our private label Stem Cell Serum (also sold in spas and far more expensive!), is a clean and highly effective formula that targets chronological aging. The idea behind this amazing serum, that so many women love, is that it works to preserve your existing stem cells, helping them last longer, enabling those exact same cells to continue to form new tissue. Skin renewal is THE most important factor in anti-aging. It prevents fine lines, sagging, and dark spots. Some of my clients use it on their bodies! I kid you not.

Our Stem Cell Serum keeps those stem cells charged and ready to renew, extending the life of your skin and rejuvenating the cells that are working hard to keep your skin plump and firm.

Apply Stem Cell Serum nightly after cleansing and toning your skin.

HBS Skin News Look YoungerIf you’re a neat freak like I am, this Covid-19 pandemic probably has your house in top sanitized condition. With all the uncertainty around this virus, why risk it? Ask any of my family members and they will all tell you that I travel with a few “safe” sanitation supplies. I can’t help it: I need to know that my utensils are clean at restaurants and that the door handles are germ free!

The grimiest places are not always where we think they will be. Workplaces, hands, cellphones, keyboards, kitchens, and money round out the top 6 dirtiest items and places that we come into contact with on a daily basis. We might as well add our hands to that list as they touch everything!

I am also a big believer in NOT touching your face unless your hands are washed clean. It’s not hard to do, even when our noses get itchy or we get something in our eyes. Just use a tissue. I even wash my hands before my nightly skincare routine. Sounds excessive, yes, but washing my face with dirty hands feels counterproductive to me!  We do so many things subconsciously that we don’t realize we might be getting ourselves sick! Such as applying lip balm with an unwashed finger, or rolling up your yoga mat! Yikes. Don’t roll it! Just fold it so the inside stays clean. You’re laying on a mat that was on a dirty, sweaty floor.

The following tips have helped me and many other feel less stressed about staying safe and germ free, whether you’re out in public or at home. They are super simple and super effective!

Stress free Public Places

Hand sanitizer is a big seller right now and is sold out everywhere. I don;t care for it, actually, since it’s loaded with other bad chemicals. So I make my own at home using distilled white vinegar which can be found everywhere and the last time I checked, was still in stock everywhere!  White vinegar is a wonderful cleaner as it is highly acidic, making it an inhospitable environment for germs and because most  public washrooms are closed right now. My healthy hand sanitizer is an absolute must to take with you wherever you go. Use it on your hands, menus, cutlery, your cell phone and other germy places and items!

Here’s what I do:

Place 8-10 paraben and phthalate-free baby wipes such as Seventh Generation® or plain paper towels/napkins into a zip lock sandwich bag. Add 2 tsp. Heinz® white distilled vinegar and keep the sealed bag in your purse.

Cleaning At Home

How many times a week do you do a deep clean now that you are probably at home more often than not? I am always disinfecting and cleaning the surfaces in my home. As I mentioned before, I was a germaphobe before this happened and I will continue to be once this is over! Thankfully, I have a supportive husband who is just as clean as I am and helps me out a lot!

I do not like using products with preservatives or unnecessary chemicals. Harsh cleaners do work but they come with so much environmental and chemical baggage that they are almost not worth using.

I have two simple alternatives to all of those harsh chemicals. They are so safe, you can even let your kids or grandkids clean with them! They are distilled white vinegar and baking soda. This cleaning tag team are two of the safest and most effective household cleaners and anyone can use them, as often as you need.

I spray vinegar on my countertops and cutting boards to kill food borne germs, and it really works! I also use it for:

  • Cleaning fruits and vegetables
  • Removing odor from plastic food storage containers
  • Cleaning my shower
  • Disinfect, brighten, and deodorize laundry
  • Cleaning windows and mirrors

Vinegar has 1000 uses, and costs pennies per use.

Tip: Always use gloves when cleaning to protect your hands and nails. Keeping hands out of water can also prevent arthritis in your hands!

Use vinegar and baking soda to:

  • Whiten and brighten whites without bleach
  • Clean your toilet! Add a few drops of dish soap and scrub away the stains and that nasty urine smell
  • Clean pots and pans
  • Clean tiles and sinks
  • Clear a drain: Use ½ cup of baking soda mixed with 1 cup white vinegar. Leave for 30 minutes then flush with HOT water

My beautiful and talented niece, Lisa Matsuda, is a frequent contributing writer at I think you’ll enjoy this very thought provoking article she wrote. It’s something I’m very proud to post today. Thank you Lisa!Stress Management Part 2: Avoid Stigmatizing Others! 3

Stress Management Part 3: Avoid Stigmatizing Others!

Finishing our second month of quarantine, one thing is for certain: people’s behavior towards others has changed, and not for the better in many cases. Covid 19 has become the leprosy of the 21st century with people now avoiding others by crossing the street when they see them. Even saying hello is becoming tabu as some view communication as breaking quarantine and avoid it to the amusement of some and the annoyance of others. Have you noticed that when you are out for your walk even just LOOKING at someone causes them to look away? How did that make you feel? I’m sure it didn’t help your stress level go down, in any case!

Stigma around disease is not new. From HIV to head lice, people naturally want to avoid infection. The sight of boils, cuts, coughing, and other signs that the body is fighting an infection, make most of us want to run! It is completely natural and not necessarily a bad thing. Fear is the number one influencer of human behavior, but you do not need to have it control your actions.

They’re Sick Because They Deserve It…?

As a society we have been working hard to erase the stigma around disease and mental illness but it seems none of that matters when it comes to Covid-19. Valerie Earnshaw from the National Institute of Mental Health co wrote a fantastic article about stigma and illness. She mentions the “just world fallacy” where many of us believe that if we do everything right, such as wash our hands for 60 seconds rather than 20 seconds, then we will not get infected. This of course is not necessarily correct. We subconsciously assume anyone who catches something somehow deserves it. Maybe they didn’t wash their hands long enough, or maybe they didn’t social distance properly. Maybe you saw their kids playing outside! SHAME! It somehow never crosses the minds of some that they may contract it too. This also causes people to avoid testing for it because we know people’s reactions to someone with the virus are sometimes worse than the actual virus itself. We are quick to judge and slow to sympathize.

The good news is that there are still many people out there who are working hard to dispel the stereotypes. Many celebrities have come out saying they have Covid-19 or have had it, and while some of their efforts to comfort the public seem a bit clumsy and cringeworthy, at least they are trying! If they can get it, then we all can!

Be a Good Neighbor!

So how does this relate to stress relief? When you do your positive affirmations and declarations, include others in your routine. Remind yourself that you will smile at the mom walking her kids around the neighborhood. Smile at the elderly couple who are taking a turn around the neighborhood. Say “Hello” to that grumpy lady that you see all the time. Who knows? Maybe you’ll cheer her up! And if not, what’s wrong with being civil in a time of increasing incivility? Not only will this lessen their stress, doing good to others will lessen yours!

If you have had Covid-19, or have it currently, do not worry! You are not alone. You are not dirty, disgusting, or shameful. You will recover and continue your life. You can be a support for those who are feeling shunned by society because of this virus. You can be the positive influence others need to recover. Join a support group for people recovering from Covid, or start your own! You may be surprised at who joins your group and they will always remember your kindness during their time of stress,

Don’t forget: the quarantine was put in place to HELP others and flatten the curve. It was not to label others as dirty and “unclean”, and it does not replace mercy and compassion. Ask yourself this: during quarantine, when there is a lot of fear and uncertainty, where many are isolated and lonely, what is YOUR best response to others?

Let’s do out best to be kind to one another!” Amen!
