Louisa’s Anti Aging and Skin Care Tips: Rejuvenating Antioxidants

Many antioxidant-rich creams contain effective, nourishing and anti aging properties. Some of the most popular and powerful antioxidants listed on ingredient labels include green tea extract, DMAE (derived from fish) alpha lipoic acid, Vitamin C, Astazanthin®, Pycnogenol®, Vitamin A (Retinol), Squalane (super hydrator), and Vitamin E. These anti-aging antioxidants can help nourish, hydrate, and protect skin against UV rays and free radicals.Anti Aging Secret #5 - Rejuvenating Antioxidants 1

Antioxidants can help repair fine lines, wrinkles, regenerate cell turnaround, fade pigmentation spots, tighten and firm skin and help calm skin inflammation. See more information below on what these powerful antioxidants can do for you.

Green tea has antibacterial properties that help keep blemishes in check and also contains catechins that are known to help protect skin from UV rays. Green tea extract is loaded with anti-oxidants and anti-inflammatory properties. It’s highly beneficial for all skin types, especially those with oily skin, rosacea and acne because of its anti-bacterial properties. Find it in our popular body hydrador, Skinlasting Hydrating Moisturizer. It comes in a large 6 oz. spray bottle for just $31.00. Regular $49.95 at select dermatologist offices.

Vitamin E hydrates, soothes, heals and protects skin from free-radical damage. It’s great for chapped lips too.

Astazanthin® & Pycnolgenol®, two of the most powerful antioxidants, rehydrate, retexturize and rejuvenate the skin. This combination of super antioxidants can be used by all skin types, even those with rosacea or sensitive skin. Find it in our Soothing Toner, Ultimate Age-Proofing Complex , Beyond CP and Ultimate Ceramide & Lipid Serum. Derived from micro-algae, Astazanthin® is 500 times more potent than Vitamin E.  Because this super antioxidant contains natural UV protection, it can help fight free-radicals, reduce inflammation, smooth skin, promote elasticity, stimulate collagen production and reduce fine lines.

Gravity-defying DMAE can help brighten, tighten and firm skin almost instantly. DMAE contains anti-inflammatory properties that help reduce facial sag, improve skin hydration and tone, and reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles. It even helps plump up lips too. Find it in our Skin Uplift Serum and Eye Perfect.

Alpha Lipoic Acid, a universal antioxidant, protects cells from free radical damage. It actually deactivates both fat and water soluble free radicals! No other single antioxidant can do this. And when Alpha Lipoic Acid is combined with Vitamin C, it becomes even more effective. Find it in our Ultimate Age-Proofing Complex.

Vitamin C comes in various forms such as Ascorbyl Palmitate (also known as C-Ester) and Ascorbic Acid.

I’ll explain the best use for each below:

Vitamin C-Ester (Ascorbyl Palmitate) is fat-soluble Vitamin C that is more stable and gentler than ascorbic acid. It is better absorbed by the skin cells and over time remains within cells helping to protect skin from harmful UV rays. The more you apply Vitamin C-Ester, the more UV protection you will build within your skin. However, it is always recommended that you wear sun screen daily for the best UV protection. Because Vitamin C-Ester is more stable, you can add it to any face cream and it will not lose its efficacy.

Ascorbic Acid Vitamin C is water soluble, and may be a little irritating to those with sensitive skin. Adding ascorbic acid to face cream can help make a more powerful antioxidant cream or skin brightening mask but you must apply it immediately as this type of Vitamin C loses its efficacy quickly. In other words every application must be made fresh. I use Ascorbic Acid to make an effective skin brightening mask that can also help refine pores. It is not recommended for those with sensitive skin.

100% Emu oil is a remarkable trans-dermal, non-pore-clogging, anti-aging oil that can help “push” anti-oxidants down to the dermis (3rd layer) of the skin. Studies also reveal that emu oil can increase the thickness of the skin, creating a more youthful-looking complexion. Emu oil’s anti-inflammatory properties help reduce puffiness around the eyes. It contains omega 3, 6 and 9. Anti-aging experts, plastic surgeons, scientists and the cosmetic industry praise the rejuvenating benefits of emu oil. Apply emu oil over your nightly antioxidant-rich cream, and you will achieve even faster rejuvenating and age-proofing results.

Squalane derived from premium olives, is a super hydrating oil that is most effective when applied under the eyes, on the face, or neck. It takes away that crepe-looking skin on the neck and chest and does not clog pores or cuase breakouts. Find squalane in our top seeling eye cream; Eye Perfect and De-Aging Solution with EGF.

Vitamin A (found in retinol) is a skin rebuilding nutrient that helps smooth fine lines and wrinkles. Prescription Retinol and Renova can be a little drying to some individuals. Use them sparingly (once to twice weekly). NOTE: DO NOT use Retinol products if you are pregnant, nursing or planning to become pregnant. The good new is, peptides have been scientifically proven to be safer yet just as effective as retinol. Find peptides in many of our creams and serums.

Hyaluronic acid can help hydrate, tighten, plump and firm the appearance of skin. Hyaluronic acid helps improve collagen health for increased strength and elasticity, resulting in firmer-looking skin. It can be found in facial creams and serums including Skin Uplift Serum, Deep Penetrating LED Peptide Serum, De-Aging Solution, Skinlasting Hydrating Moisturizer and many more serums and moisturizers in our SHOP.
